According to the ADA, shower grab bars must be securely installed on the side and back walls of accessible showers, positioned horizontally 33 to 36 inches above the finished floor. The bars must have a diameter of 1.25 to 1.5 inches, be able to support at least 250 pounds, and be spaced 1.5 inches from the wall to allow for a secure grip.
