To read a medical weight scale, first ensure the scale is on a flat, hard surface and zeroed out before use. Have the person stand still in the center of the platform, distributing their weight evenly. Read the measurement displayed on the digital screen or, if using a mechanical scale, adjust the sliding weights until the balance beam is level and note the weight indicated.
